I love this unit. Just got it on the weekend from Canada Computers and was impressed with how easy it is to use. I’ve got an external 2TB Phantom drive on it with around 1000 movies. I have a Sony HD video camera and found that the unprocessed Sony HD video also plays without a hitch. Fantastic video quality when plugged into the TV via the HDMI cable that came in with it. Highly recommend this unit. Now I’m just waiting for the 1TB 2.5″ drives to come down cheaper and I’ll plug one of those into it.

My main purpose for buying this unit was that we spend a lot of time on the road in hotels and wanted to havbe better quality movies to watch other than that which is .mp4 from my IPod.

I also experience with mkv files, some would play just fine, and for some, I can preview it on the preview screen, but it won’t play when press the play button (or the enter button), all function completely frozen. I have to power down the unit and restart again. Anyone know what seems to be the problem? Does the resolution (480, 720, etc…) on the unit has to match up with the resolution recorded in the mkv file?

I have mixed feelings about this media player. I drop .MKV files on it and seems to play fine… then a few days later the .mkv files seem to get corrupted and can’t be played anymore.

Anyone else experiencing this ?

Hi Lino, I did find out that the Xtreamer supports a UpNP Gateway that will allow you to stream your HDD content through the internet. Here is the link to the article here on digital media player guide, Xtreamer, and here is the link to the product description at Amazon, Xtreamer 1080P HD Media Player & Network Streamer H.264 MKV. Here is the summary from the Xtreamer website:

"UPnP Web Gateway - The Xtreamer features advanced web gateway from which you will be able to control various features of the device. Simply login via your PC web browser. You will be able to assign the device a unique name that will allow you easy access to the device even from the internet: yourname.myxtreamer.net. This Web Gateway will allow you to setup an NFS client and even stream your xtreamer HDD content to PC. The Xtreamer can serve you files as NAS and its files are accessible by your PC once the FTP service is enabled."

Hey guys,

This may be a stupid question but I have to ask. Is it possible to have this Media player or any media player act like a server or be connected to a network in order for me to access everything that is on this device from my i.e. Netbook, 360, PS3 at the same time? The only way I see this possible is dedicating an old pc as the server and shareing the files. Is it possible with a Media player to do the same?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I haven’t seen this player out at Fry’s or Best Buy yet. I suspect that Amazon may have some sort of exclusive agreement with Patriot Memory.
